China
China is the country of birth of tea and, hence, the home of the tea
culture. Since the English founded tea plantations in India, on Ceylon
and, later, also in East Africa, the Chinese monopoly has ended. China
produces approximately 22 per cent of the world harvest and exports
roughtly 74,000 tons of tea of the harvest of 540,000 tons. The Chinese
tea generally distinguishes itself through its very fine aroma. The
Chinese preferably drink green tea.
